Spyder Club Motorcycle Tour: Four Days Riding in Andalucia

After the success of this year’s trip Spyder Club are once again offering a fly ride trip to the southern Spanish region of Andalucia with a fleet of desirable bikes. From the Wednesday 16th February to Sunday 13th March 2011 four trips (dates below) will be run where you are invited to enjoy 4 days of stunning mountain road riding in the winter sun of Spain on truly amazing motorcycles.

Members and non-members can flee the winter gloom of the UK to ride under the Spanish sun across entertaining mountain roads unspoilt by the usual traffic met on British highways. Each route offers something different – from challenging switchback hairpins and spiraling mountain roads to fast-flowing sweeping bends – this is a short break that will offer like minded company for two wheeled enthusiasts.

Trip Description

Group One - Wed. 16th February - Sun. 20th February 2011 (full)

Group Two - Mon. 21st February - Fri. 25th February 2011 (full)

Group Three - Sat. 26th February - Wed. 2nd March 2011 (full)

Group Four - Thu. 3rd March – Mon. 7th March 2011 (1 extra space available)

Group Five - Wed. 9th March – Sun. 13th March 2011 (3 spaces available)

Days riding – four

Arriving into Malaga airport in the late afternoon/early evening for welcome drinks, buffet and introductions.  Your return flights will need to be booked for late afternoon/early evening on day four.

Day one: after breakfast and briefing the day heads to Malaga using the A45 motorway to familiarise riders to riding on the right and remind those who’ve stopped riding over winter what a bike is! On to the E15 towards Marbella until the A7 along the sweeping coastal road from Mijas, then back on to the E15, coming off on to the A397 to Ronda. The road from San Pedro to Ronda is stunning and will lend itself well to the rider who has not ridden in the winter months, easing them into the motorcycling to come.

From Ronda the A366 is taken back towards Malaga; starting gently it soon turns into a well surfaced mountain road with first gear switchbacks. It’s an exciting road, climbing up over Puerto del Viento and then dropping into the village of Alozaina where the ride continues north on the A354. On to the A343 through Alora and then Antequera the day finishes on either the A7075 back road to the villa or the A45 and a well earned beer!

Day two: many of the roads used on day two are spectacular mountain passes and riders can look forward to a day of exhilarating and very challenging riding. The A356 will lead from the base on to the A402 up to Ventas de Zafarraya which will ease riders into the day as well as offer a taste of what’s to come. The route continues on the A402 – which briefly flattens and straightens out once it plateaus – only to return to its former twisting glory downwards to Alhama de Granada and Moraleda de Zafayona.

Crossing the A92 the route joins the A335 to Montefrio, a gloriously inspiring road with beautiful southern Spanish scenery. Riders will continue on to Alcala on the A335 briefly using the N432 north to join the A339 to Priego. The A339, although relatively straight will offer a welcome rest from the previous challenges, before the final stretches of left to right corners on the A333. From Priego the A333 entertains all the way back to the A92 and then the A92M back to base.

Day three: after the twists and turns of day two the fast sweeping route of day three will be a joy to the muscles and eyes as the generous offering of scenery in the Ronda region whizzes by. Heading back towards Ronda, riders will initially use the A45 and A92 west to get on to the A384 where the route starts straight but after the town of Campilos the scenery quickly changes and riders begin to sweep gently through the hills on roads built for motorcycling!

The bends tighten as the route nears Olvera though still allowing good speed and the ride continues in this manner to Ronda, joining the A374. From Ronda the ride moves along the A367 heading north east, again providing a relaxed but very entertaining ride through Andalucia. On to the A357 south east the route flows towards Malaga where riders can choose between the A45 or A343 to return to the villa.

Day four: a shorter day to allow for packing and airport transfers riding begins after breakfast for the final time.  The route heads towards Colmenar turning south towards Malaga for over thirty miles of beautifully laid twising tarmac.  As this is so good we turn at the end and do it all over again!  Upon arrival at the villa a late lunch will be served before your departure.
